Vicky Tiel Couture Vintage Black gown
Stunning vintage VICKY TIEL COUTURE black strapless gown. Features flattering ruched detail at the bust, with a free flowing empire waist fit. Black mesh over black silk. Boned bodice. Hidden zipper up the back. Impeccable construction, with heavy attention to detail.
“The Pretty Woman Dress” was originally designed as a strapless dress, for French actress Anne Parillaud to wear to Cannes Film Festival in 1977. It was later sold to Giorgio’s Beverly Hills, where it was often displayed in the windows. The red silk jersey version with draped sleeves, featured in the shop’s Rodeo Drive windows, was copied for Julia Roberts to wear in the 1989 film “Pretty Woman”. Since then, it has been known as the “Pretty Woman Dress”, and has been on many of the “Best Dresses in Movie History” lists. The Pretty Woman Dress has been sold in Neiman Marcus stores for 32 years continuously from 1983 to today.
This gown features a strapless sweetheart neckline, figure-sculpting internal corsetry, and dramatic draping through the bodice and hips. The fabric gathers at the waist into a front sash that falls into a floor-length skirt, creating a fluid and sensual silhouette. Both sultry and elegant, this design epitomizes 1980s glamour. Variations of this iconic design have been worn by Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman, Jill Biden and her granddaughter Finnegan Biden, further cementing its place in American fashion history.
